How to Hide Google AI Overviews in Firefox (2026)
April 24, 2026 · 7 min read
Firefox has a smaller extension ecosystem than Chrome, but for hiding Google AI Overviews it actually has good options. This guide covers the three reliable methods, in order of how much control they give you.
The Short Answer
The fastest fix is a dedicated Firefox extension that hides Google AI Overviews on every search. Bye Bye Google AI is the most-installed option and works well for that single purpose. If you want more control over the entire Google search page, custom uBlock Origin filters give you element-by-element hiding. If you do not want any extensions, switching your default search engine to a non-Google option removes AI Overviews entirely because they only appear on Google.
Method 1: Use a Firefox Extension
Bye Bye Google AI is a free Firefox extension built specifically to hide the AI Overview block (we wrote a full comparison vs Search Cleaner for users deciding between them). To install:
1. Open Firefox.
2. Go to addons.mozilla.org.
3. Search for Bye Bye Google AI.
4. Click Add to Firefox.
5. Approve the permissions prompt.
6. Open google.com and search for any term.
7. Confirm the AI Overview block is hidden.
The extension works automatically on every Google search. There are no settings to configure.
Method 2: Custom uBlock Origin Filter
If you already use uBlock Origin, you can hide Google AI Overviews with a single custom filter rule. This is more flexible than a dedicated extension because you can add rules for other Google search elements you want hidden.
1. Click the uBlock Origin icon in the toolbar.
2. Click the gear icon to open the dashboard.
3. Click the My filters tab.
4. Add this rule on a new line: google.com##div[data-attrid="AIOverview"]
5. Add a second rule for the related fallback selector: google.com##.M8OgIe
6. Click Apply changes.
7. Reload Google search.
The selectors above target the current AI Overview block as of 2026. Google occasionally renames classes, so if the rule stops working, search uBlock community filters for an updated selector.
For the AI Mode tab, sponsored ads, and other Google clutter, you can add additional rules. The uBlock community maintains a Google search annoyances list that includes most of these.
Method 3: Switch Default Search Engine
If you do not want extensions or filters, the simplest fix is to use a different search engine. AI Overviews only appear on Google.
1. Open Firefox.
2. Click the menu icon and choose Settings.
3. Click Search in the left sidebar.
4. Under Default Search Engine, choose DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, Startpage, or Brave Search.
5. Close Settings.
New searches from the address bar now skip Google entirely. If you still want to use Google occasionally, you can either type google.com directly or add Google as a non-default option that you reach with a custom keyword.

Search Cleaner
Search Cleaner is a free Chrome extension that removes ads, AI overviews, shopping carousels, and clutter from Google Search results. 25 ind...
Open in Chrome Web StoreFor a Google-style experience without AI features, Startpage is the closest match. It serves Google results without the AI block, ads, or tracking.
Method 4: Force Classic Google Results with udm=14
Google has a hidden URL parameter that forces classic ten-blue-link results, with no AI Overview, AI Mode tab, knowledge panels, or shopping carousels.
1. Open Firefox Settings.
2. Click Search.
3. Under Search Shortcuts, click Add.
4. Enter a name like Google Web, a keyword like gw, and the URL https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&udm=14.
5. Save.
Now type gw followed by your search terms in the address bar to get the classic results. To make this the default for all address-bar searches, set Google Web as the default search engine in the same panel.
Firefox on Android
Firefox is one of the few Android browsers that supports add-ons. Bye Bye Google AI runs on Firefox for Android the same way as desktop.
1. Open Firefox on Android.
2. Tap the three-dot menu, then Add-ons.
3. Tap the plus icon to install from the AMO collection, or search for Bye Bye Google AI.
4. Approve the permissions.
5. Open google.com and confirm the AI Overview is hidden.
uBlock Origin also runs on Firefox Android with custom filter support.
What About Firefox No AI Extension
Firefox No AI is sometimes searched as a generic term for any extension that removes AI features in Firefox. There is no single extension by that exact name. The closest matches are Bye Bye Google AI (for Google AI Overviews specifically) and various Firefox extensions that disable Mozilla's own Pocket and AI features inside the browser. If you want both, install both.
Which Method Should You Use
If you only want AI Overviews gone with zero setup, use Bye Bye Google AI. Install once and forget it.
If you want to clean up more than just AI Overview, like ads, shopping carousels, People Also Ask, and the AI Mode tab, use uBlock Origin with custom filters. More setup, more control. There is no Firefox version of Search Cleaner today, so on Firefox the uBlock route is the closest to per-element control.
If you do not want extensions, switch your default search to DuckDuckGo or Startpage. AI Overviews simply do not appear.
Key Takeaways
Firefox users have three solid options for hiding Google AI Overviews: a dedicated extension, custom uBlock filters, or a different default search engine. The right choice depends on whether you want minimum setup or maximum control. For Chromium browsers, our Search Cleaner extension provides the same kind of element-by-element control with a friendlier interface than uBlock filters.
