Concept site Hangline is a fictional art print shop, designed and built by Patrick Bushe to show what I make for art print shops. Fictional, by Patrick Bushe

Art for your walls. Hung at the right height.

Ten prints made in Pasadena, in four sizes up to 30 x 40 inches. Every one comes with the number most people get wrong: 57 inches, floor to center.

The 57-inch rule, and when to break it

Most art is hung too high. These three rules fix nearly every wall.

57 in
Alone on a wall: 57 inchesMeasure 57 inches up from the floor and put the center of the art there. It’s eye level for most people, and it’s what most galleries use.
9 inabout 2/3 of the sofa
Over a sofa: 8 to 10 inches upFurniture changes the rule. Leave 8 to 10 inches between the back of the sofa and the bottom of the frame, and fill about two thirds of its width.
57 in
A group: hang it as one pieceTreat a set as one big frame. Keep 2 to 3 inches between pieces and put the center of the whole group at 57 inches.

Will it look right over your sofa?

Type in your wall and your sofa. The wall preview draws them to scale with the print you like, says if it’s too small, and tells you exactly where the nail goes.

Hangline is a concept store, so nothing is for sale.

A real Hangline store would go to Shopify checkout here, with the print made and framed to order.
