How Do I Know If My Business Is Ready for AI | Bushe.co

Not every business is ready for AI right now, and that is fine. Here is an honest assessment framework:
You Are Ready If
- You have identified specific repetitive tasks that consume significant time each week
- Your basic technology works — you have reliable internet, modern software, and email
- You (or someone on your team) can dedicate 2-4 hours to the implementation process
- You have a budget of at least $1,000-$2,000 for initial setup
- You can articulate what success looks like — "save 10 hours per week" or "respond to leads in under 5 minutes"
You Are Not Ready If
- You do not have documented processes — if no one can explain how things are done, AI cannot automate it
- Your team strongly resists any technology change — forcing AI adoption on an unwilling team wastes money
- Your basic infrastructure is broken — fix your wifi, update your computers, and get a real CRM before adding AI
- You want AI because it sounds cool — without a specific problem to solve, AI is a solution looking for a problem
- You expect AI to fix fundamental business problems — if your pricing is wrong, your service is poor, or your market does not exist, AI will not save you
The Readiness Checklist
Rate yourself on each item (1 to 5):
- Clarity on which tasks waste the most time
- Current technology stack is functional and modern
- Team is open to new tools and processes
- Budget allocated for implementation
- One person designated as the AI project point of contact
- Willingness to measure results and iterate
If you score 20 or above out of 30, you are ready. Below 15, focus on the gaps first.
A Middle Ground
Even if you are not ready for full AI implementation, you can start small: try a free AI chatbot on your website, experiment with AI content writing tools, or use AI to draft email responses. These zero-cost experiments build comfort and demonstrate value before committing to a larger investment.
