Thread Ring
From $68
Fine everyday jewelry, Los Angeles
Thin bands and fine chains in recycled silver and gold, made in nine steps by hand, and engraved inside with whatever you want to keep close.
Engraving, $20
A date, initials, a word only one person gets. Type it and see it inside the band. We engrave by hand, so it’s cut into the metal, not printed on it.
Engrave the Three-Line BandEvery ring takes nine steps on our bench downtown, from melting recycled metal to the last polish. That’s the name. Here’s the work.
Inside the studioRecycled silver or gold is melted and poured into a bar.
The bar goes through the rolling mill until it’s the right thickness.
We cut a strip to your size, to a tenth of a millimeter.
The strip is bent round a steel mandrel by hand.
The two ends are joined with a tiny flame.
It’s hammered round again on the mandrel, so it sits evenly.
Edges are filed and the inside is curved for comfort.
Your words go inside, by hand, if you asked for them.
Three wheels, finest last, then a final check under a loupe.
Put a ring you already own on your screen and match the circle to it. It takes a minute. Or we’ll mail you a free plastic sizer, and resizing is free for a year anyway.
Made to be stacked. Start with one.
