The brief

Ninefold is a made-up jewelry studio in downtown Los Angeles that makes everyday rings and chains in recycled silver and gold.

Two things stop people from buying a ring online: not knowing their size, and not being able to picture a personal piece. Buying it as a gift makes both harder.

The idea

The circle

A ring is a circle you wear, so circles run the site: the hero photo is set in a polished band with a garnet stone and a turning ring of text, categories are round, metals and sizes are round buttons, and the engraving preview draws a ring with your words inside. Garnet and polished silver on white; Syne with Instrument Sans.

Design decisions

See the engraving before you buy

Type up to 14 characters and they appear inside a drawn ring in the metal you picked. The price adds $20 only when there are words to engrave.

Ring size on screen

Match a bank card to set the screen’s scale, then match a ring you own. The size links back to the ring you were looking at. A free plastic sizer is one tap away.

Easy to give

Free resizing for a year, a gift box with no prices inside, and a gift note right on the shop page.
