Plan & Section is a made-up brand. I designed and built it to show what a furniture maker store can look like; the people, prices, results and reviews on it are samples.

The brief

Plan & Section is a made-up furniture maker in Glassell Park that builds tables, chairs and stools to order.

Furniture is expensive and hard to return, and the first question is always “Will it fit?” The store has to show exact sizes, let people try a table in their own room, and make a made-to-order wait feel worth it.

The idea

The drawing set

The store reads like an architect’s sheets: cobalt line work on white, a faint drafting grid, sheet numbers (A-101) where other shops put labels, title blocks, dimension lines with slash ticks, and drawings that draw themselves on. Schibsted Grotesk with Azeret Mono for the numbers.

Design decisions

Every product is a drawing

Product pages draw the piece in plan, front and side views, and the drawing redraws for the size and wood you pick.

“Will it fit?” gets a real answer

The room planner takes your room size, places the table and chairs, and says whether there’s room to pull out a chair and walk past.

Feel the wood first

Up to three wood samples ship free, and the workshop takes visits.
