Chrome extension development, from idea to Chrome Web Store
I’m Patrick Bushe, a product designer and developer who has designed, built, and published 20 Chrome extensions of my own, from privacy tools to research tools for Shopify and Etsy sellers. I build custom extensions for businesses the same way: scoped up front, designed before coding, built on Manifest V3, and published to the Chrome Web Store under your account.

My own extensions cover dark mode, privacy, search, ecommerce research, and reading, all live on the Chrome Web Store.
Every build uses Manifest V3, the format the Chrome Web Store requires for new extensions.
Narrow permissions mean a less alarming install prompt for your users and fewer questions in store review.
I’m a product designer first, so the popup, settings, and store listing look like a finished product.

Patrick Bushe
I design and build websites, ecommerce stores, and digital products from Los Angeles. Every project is founder-led — when you hire bushe.co, you're working with me directly, not a junior team or an offshore handoff.
Past clients include Rob Dyrdek, Peels, Street League Skateboarding, DTA Posse, Pasadena Bar Association, and SpringClick. I use AI tools throughout the process to ship faster — without making the work generic.
What clients say
Patrick delivered exactly what he promised — a custom Shopify store that actually converts. No templates, no junior handoffs, just clean design and solid development. The fixed quote in 48 hours was a breath of fresh air.
We needed a serious WordPress rebuild for our marketing site. Patrick handled discovery, design, and build himself. Weekly check-ins, zero scope creep, and 30 days of support after launch. Highly recommend.
Best Shopify SEO work we’ve had. Technical audit, schema, speed improvements — all done by the founder. Our organic traffic started climbing within weeks.
Working with Bushe felt like having a senior partner instead of an agency. Patrick designed and built our custom WordPress site from scratch. It looks premium and performs even better.
From discovery call to launch in under two months. Fixed scope, clear deadlines, and real AI-augmented efficiency without the generic AI look. Exactly what we needed.
Patrick took over our half-finished Shopify store and turned it into something we’re proud of. Design iterations until it was right, clean handoff, and post-launch support included. Outstanding.
Questions buyers ask
How much does it cost to build a Chrome extension?
It depends on scope. An extension with one job on one website is a small project; one with user accounts, payments, or its own backend server is a much larger one. You get a fixed quote after a free scope call.
Do you build Manifest V3 extensions, and can you migrate a Manifest V2 one?
Every extension I build uses Manifest V3. Chrome has phased out Manifest V2, so older extensions need migrating: the background page becomes a service worker, blocking webRequest rules move to declarativeNetRequest, and remote code has to be bundled into the extension.
Will the extension be published under my account?
Yes. It goes out under your own Chrome Web Store developer account, so you own the listing, the reviews, and the users. Google charges a one-time $5 fee to register that account. I prepare the package, listing, and privacy disclosures.
Can the extension also work in Edge and Firefox?
Edge is built on Chromium and runs Chrome extensions, and it has its own add-ons store. Firefox supports most of the same extension APIs with some differences, so a Firefox version usually needs a few changes and a separate submission.
How long does Chrome Web Store review take?
Google doesn’t promise a timeline. Most reviews are quick, and the usual reason one takes longer is an extension asking for broad permissions, like access to every website. Keeping permissions narrow helps.
Can a Chrome extension connect to our API or internal tools?
Yes. An extension can call your API, read and fill in pages your team uses, and push data into your internal tools. Any secret keys stay on a server you control, never inside the extension, because anyone who installs it can unpack and read its code.
