One bench, nine steps, no shortcuts.
Ninefold is a small studio in downtown Los Angeles. Every ring starts as recycled metal on our bench and leaves as a ring with your size, and your words inside if you want them.
The nine steps
About three hours of bench time for a plain band, longer for stones and engraving.
- 1 Melt
Recycled silver or gold is melted and poured into a bar.
- 2 Roll
The bar goes through the rolling mill until it’s the right thickness.
- 3 Cut
We cut a strip to your size, to a tenth of a millimeter.
- 4 Bend
The strip is bent round a steel mandrel by hand.
- 5 Solder
The two ends are joined with a tiny flame.
- 6 True
It’s hammered round again on the mandrel, so it sits evenly.
- 7 Shape
Edges are filed and the inside is curved for comfort.
- 8 Engrave
Your words go inside, by hand, if you asked for them.
- 9 Polish
Three wheels, finest last, then a final check under a loupe.
What it’s made of
All of our silver and gold is recycled, and refined to the same purity as newly mined metal.
Recycled sterling, polished bright.
A thick layer of 14k gold over recycled sterling.
Solid recycled 14k gold. It never wears through.
Solid recycled 14k gold with a little more copper.
Care and resizing
- Free resizing for a year
- Send it back with a note of the new size. Most rings come back in a week. Engraving stays put.
- Free polish, every year
- Once a year, send any piece and we’ll polish it and check stones and clasps. You pay one way.
- Everyday care
- Take it off to swim, clean or work out. Silver darkens with air; a cloth brings it back. Vermeil lasts longest away from lotion.
- Returns
- Free returns for 30 days on anything that isn’t engraved. It arrives gift-boxed, with no prices inside.

Try every ring, get sized properly, and watch the bench. Fittings are 30 minutes, Thursday to Saturday, in our downtown studio.
