Water Intake Estimator

Estimate a simple daily fluid target from weight and activity.

Estimate a practical fluid target

Hydration advice often sounds exact, but real needs change with body size, activity, climate, sweat rate, diet, and medical context. This estimator uses a simple planning rule: start at half an ounce per pound of body weight, then add 12 ounces for each 30 minutes of activity.

For example, a 180 pound person starts at 90 ounces. Add 45 minutes of activity and the estimate becomes 108 ounces, or about 3.2 liters. That gives a bottle-filling target for an ordinary day, not a medical requirement.

Use it as a planning reminder

The output is best for rough scheduling: how many bottles, cups, or refills to aim for. It does not account for electrolytes, illness, heat exposure, or clinician-directed fluid restrictions. The calculation is local and lightweight, so you can adjust the inputs without sharing personal details. It works best as a refill target for an ordinary day, not as a rule for illness or extreme heat.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the water estimate calculated?

It starts with half an ounce per pound of body weight, then adds 12 ounces for each 30 minutes of activity you enter.

Is this an official medical hydration target?

No. It is a simple planning estimate. Climate, sweat rate, pregnancy, medical conditions, food, and medications can change fluid needs.

Why show both ounces and liters?

Ounces are common on bottles in the United States, while liters are useful for comparing totals with many nutrition references.

Does the estimator save my weight?

No. Your weight and activity minutes stay in the browser.
