Project Overview
We Are Geist was an LA-based electronic music producer collective positioned as a “Producer Trifecta,” specializing in high-energy tracks blending deep house influences with hard-hitting EDM elements. The project maintained a deliberate faceless approach to emphasize music over personalities, fostering a dedicated global fan community under the #GeistFam banner.
As co-founder alongside Devin Schumacher, I spearheaded the branding, marketing, and growth initiatives that defined the project's success:
Branding & Identity Development: Architected the core brand concept—faceless, genre-agnostic (#facelessmusic, #nogenres), mysterious yet accessible—with consistent visual language, tone of voice, and messaging that differentiated We Are Geist in the crowded electronic scene. This identity extended across profile art, promotional graphics, and all touchpoints to prioritize the music and collective energy.
Marketing & Storytelling: Crafted the overarching narrative around accessibility and community (“We go Deep, but we also go Hard”), positioning free music as a core value. Wrote all promotional copy, bios, captions, and press materials to build emotional connection and drive shares.
Growth & Viral Marketing Strategy: Executed a multi-channel digital growth plan, including SoundCloud as the primary distribution hub (accumulating millions of plays on tracks like “Hey Hey,” “Thinkin About You,” and others), Instagram (@wearegeist), Facebook, and X (@GeistWorld) for organic amplification. Implemented viral tactics such as free-download funnels via wearegeist.com, playlist curation, hashtag campaigns (#GeistFam), and community incentives to encourage user-generated sharing and fan loyalty. Coordinated booking inquiries (info@wearegeist.com) to support live expansion while maintaining grassroots momentum.
Community & Engagement Focus: Cultivated an authentic, engaged audience through consistent content drops, exclusive releases, and direct fan interaction—turning passive listeners into advocates and fueling exponential organic reach without heavy paid media reliance.
This project exemplified effective independent music marketing in the digital era: leveraging branding for differentiation, free-access models for virality, community-building for retention, and cross-platform tactics for scalable growth. It resulted in significant traction and a loyal following, demonstrating the power of strategic, music-first marketing to build lasting cultural impact.
