The metric carat has an exact definition of 200 milligrams, making the conversion stable and straightforward. With the default value, 5 carats converts to exactly 1 gram. In reverse, 1 gram returns exactly 5 carats. The reference table shows several carat amounts at a glance, and the calculator retains the same fixed relationship for fractional values such as a quarter-carat stone.
