Relate frame-by-frame speed to road speed

Feet per second measures the distance traveled during one second, while miles per hour expresses distance over an hour. Moving between them is useful when a technical specification, sports measurement, simulation, or physics exercise uses FPS but a familiar road-speed comparison is easier to understand in MPH. This page applies the fixed relationship between feet, miles, seconds, and hours in either direction and rounds the displayed answer to six significant figures.

With the default value, 10 feet per second converts to 6.81818 miles per hour. Reversing the direction uses the same relationship by division; for example, 60 miles per hour is exactly 88 feet per second with this factor. The reference rows make it easy to sanity-check common magnitudes before using a result in a report, worksheet, or calculation.

A private conversion with a defined scope

The number you enter is processed entirely in your browser and is not sent to a server. The conversion describes constant speed only. It does not model acceleration, air resistance, frame timing, measurement uncertainty, or a projectile path, so those effects should be handled separately when they matter to the underlying problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the FPS to MPH conversion factor?

One foot per second equals approximately 0.681818 miles per hour.

Can I convert MPH back to FPS?

Yes. Choose the reverse direction to divide miles per hour by the same conversion factor.

Is this useful for projectile speed?

It can compare stated speeds, but it does not account for drag, trajectory, or changing velocity.
