The law of the spring
Hooke’s law says a spring pushes back in proportion to how far you stretch or squash it. Double the displacement and you double the force, up to the spring’s elastic limit.
A spring with a constant of 200 N/m stretched 0.15 m pulls back with 30 N of force. The stiffer the spring, the more force each centimetre of stretch produces.
