Live rates need a server; this deliberately uses a rate you enter, so it works offline and stays private. Type an amount and today's rate and it converts instantly — 100 at 1.08 is 108.
Because you supply the rate, it works on a plane or abroad with no connection, and you can enter the mid-market rate to see how much margin a card or exchange booth is really charging.

Frequently asked questions
How is the fee applied?
The amount is converted at your rate first, then the fee percentage is taken from the converted total. 250 at 1.08 converts to 270.00, a 2.5% fee is 6.75, leaving 263.25.
Why is no currency symbol shown?
The tool does not know which currencies you are converting, so results are plain numbers in the target currency.
Where do I find the rate to enter?
Use the mid-market rate from a source like your bank, XE, or Google for comparison, then enter the rate your card or exchange actually offers to see the real cost.
