Estimate mortar from the product coverage
Mortar coverage is not one universal number. Bag weight, brick or block dimensions, joint width and depth, tooling, substrate, and installer technique all change material use. This calculator therefore asks for the coverage printed by the chosen product or supplied by a project specification. It increases wall area by the selected waste percentage, divides by that coverage, and rounds the purchase quantity up to a whole bag.
With 500 square feet of wall, coverage of 35 square feet per bag, and 10 percent waste, the adjusted area is 550 square feet. Dividing by coverage gives 15.7143 bags, so the purchase estimate is 16 whole bags. The unrounded value remains visible, making it easier to compare package sizes or change the allowance without losing the calculation detail.
