Readability Scores

Score text with six readability formulas at once, from Flesch to SMOG.

Six readability scores at once

Readability formulas estimate how hard text is to read from sentence length and word complexity, but each does it slightly differently. This tool runs six at once so you can see where they agree and where they diverge.

It reports Flesch Reading Ease (higher is easier), the Flesch-Kincaid, Gunning Fog, SMOG, Coleman-Liau, and ARI grade levels, plus the underlying word, sentence, and syllable counts.

Comprehensive and private

All six formulas are computed in your browser from a vowel-group syllable estimate, so your draft never leaves your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which formulas are included?

Flesch Reading Ease, Flesch-Kincaid Grade, Gunning Fog, SMOG, Coleman-Liau, and the Automated Readability Index — six widely used measures.

Why show several?

Each formula weights sentence length and word complexity differently, so seeing them together gives a more robust picture than any single score.

How exact are they?

Syllables are estimated by counting vowel groups, which is close but not perfect, so treat the grades as guidance rather than precise measurements.
