Writing a cheque amount in words
A cheque (or check) needs the amount in words as well as figures, so nobody can alter it: 1,234.56 becomes 'One thousand two hundred thirty-four and 56/100'. Type the figure above and copy the first line straight onto the cheque. Plain words mode spells out any whole number instead.
Pick your currency and the wording follows local habit: US and Canadian cheques use the 56/100 fraction, UK, euro, and Australian cheques end with 'only', and Indian and UAE cheques start with Rupees or Dirhams and end with Only. Rupee amounts are grouped in lakh and crore, so 15,00,000 reads Fifteen Lakh.
