How the one-way anova calculator works

One-way analysis of variance compares several independent group means by separating variability between group centers from variability inside groups. This calculator weights each group’s distance from the grand mean to obtain between-group sum of squares, calculates residual spread around each group mean, divides both by their degrees of freedom, and reports the ratio as F.

The default groups are 1 through 3, 4 through 6, and 7 through 9. Their means are 2, 5, and 8 around grand mean 5. The verified sums of squares are 54 between and 6 within; with degrees 2 and 6, the mean squares are 27 and 1, producing F equal to 27.

Reading one-way anova calculator results privately

ANOVA assumes independent observations, reasonably normal residuals within groups, and comparable variance for the classical one-way interpretation. A large F indicates that not all means fit one common center, but it does not identify which groups differ. Post-hoc comparisons and p-value corrections are separate analyses not performed by this calculator.
