Percent vs percentage points

Frequently asked questions
What four results does it show?
The percent of the base number, the base increased by that percent, the base decreased by it, and the percentage change from the base to the compare number. With 250 and 18%: 45, 295, and 205.
What is the compare number for?
It shows how much the compare number differs from the base as a percentage. From 250 to 310 is a 24% increase.
Why does a 20% rise then a 20% fall not return to the start?
The second percentage applies to a different base. 100 up 20% is 120, and 120 down 20% is 96, not 100.
