Random Hex Color
Generate random hex colors and keep a short history.
Random colors on tap
Sometimes you just need a color to start from — a placeholder, a random accent, a spark of inspiration. This tool generates random hex colors one at a time and keeps a short history, so you can reroll until something catches your eye and grab the ones you liked.
A quick source of random colors is handy for prototyping, testing UI against varied values, and breaking creative block. Generate, browse the recent ones, and copy any hex to use it.
A starting point, locally
A random hex is a quick spark for a placeholder or accent when you need somewhere to begin. It is generated in your browser and never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
What does the random hex color generator do?
It generates random six-digit hex colors and keeps a local history in the output panel.
How random are the colors?
Each color uses three bytes from crypto.getRandomValues, your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every one of the 16.7 million hex colors is equally likely.
How many colors are kept in history?
The last 12, newest at the top. The history lives only on this page, so it clears when you reload.
Why are so many random colors muddy?
Uniform random RGB produces many dull mid-tones. For more pleasing results, use the random palette generator, which fixes saturation and lightness and randomizes only hue.
