What Shopify really costs each month
The plan price is only part of a Shopify bill. Every online card payment through Shopify Payments costs a percentage plus 30¢, international cards add another 1%, and if you use your own payment provider instead, Shopify adds its own transaction fee on top of that provider's charges. This calculator puts all of it in one monthly total for each plan, using the US rates on Shopify's pricing page as of October 1, 2026.
Worked example, which is also the default: $10,000 a month in online sales across 200 orders, billed yearly, on Shopify Payments. Basic costs $29 + $290 in card percentage + $60 in per-order fees = $379, or 3.79% of sales. Grow costs $409 and Advanced $609, so Basic is the cheapest plan at this size.
When a bigger plan pays for itself
A higher plan has a lower card rate, so past some sales level the savings cover its higher subscription. With Shopify Payments and yearly billing, Grow overtakes Basic at $25,000 a month in online sales and Advanced overtakes Grow at $110,000. With a third-party provider the switch comes much sooner, because Shopify's extra fee drops from 2% to 1% to 0.6%. The line under the table shows these break-even points for your own settings. Plans also differ in features, such as staff accounts, so cost isn't the only reason to upgrade.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Shopify plan is cheapest for my sales?
The calculator adds each plan's subscription to its card fees and picks the lowest total. At the default $10,000 a month across 200 orders on yearly billing, Basic costs $379 and Grow $409. With Shopify Payments, Grow only becomes cheaper than Basic above $25,000 a month in online sales.
Does it include Shopify's fee for third-party payment providers?
Yes. Switch the provider to third-party and enter that provider's own rate. The calculator charges that rate, then adds Shopify's extra transaction fee on top: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced, and 0.2% on Plus.
Why is the 30¢ per order the same on every plan?
Shopify Payments charges 30¢ per online transaction on every plan, so the per-order part of the bill never decides which plan is cheapest. Only the subscription and the percentage rate change between plans.
What does the calculator leave out?
In-person POS sales, currency conversion (1.5% for US stores that charge in another currency), sales tax, paid themes, your domain, and app fees beyond the monthly amount you enter. Rates are the US online rates on shopify.com/pricing as of October 1, 2026.
