Sometimes you don't want to close a tab, but you desperately need to remove it from your immediate field of vision to focus. An extension to physically hide inactive tabs is the Tab Manager. It capitalizes on Chrome's group hiding features automatically. You can instruct the tool to sweep all non-essential tabs into an "Archive" tab group and collapse it. The tabs remain active and loaded, securely tucked inside a single tiny icon on the top rail until needed.
