Teams Dark Mode: How to Turn It On (Desktop, Web & Mobile)

Microsoft Teams has a proper dark theme on every platform, and unlike some Office apps it is a genuine one-setting switch. Here is where it lives in new Teams, classic Teams, the web, and mobile.

Teams calls it a theme, and dark is one of the built-in choices alongside Light and High contrast. Changing it darkens chats, channels, the call window, and menus instantly.

New Teams (Windows & Mac)

  1. Click the … (Settings and more) next to your profile picture, top right.
  2. Choose Settings → Appearance and accessibility.
  3. Under Theme, pick Dark.

Classic Teams

Click the … menu → Settings → General, then under Theme select Dark.

Teams on the web

Same path as the desktop app: … → Settings → Appearance and accessibility → Theme → Dark. The browser version mirrors your desktop choice when you are signed into the same account.

Teams mobile (iPhone & Android)

Tap the hamburger menu or your profile picture → Settings → Appearance (or Theme) → Dark. You can also set it to follow your phone’s system theme.

If everything but your browser tabs is now dark, that is the rest of the web ignoring your system theme — Modern Dark Mode fixes that by forcing dark mode on any website.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the dark mode setting in new Teams?

Click the three-dot menu next to your profile picture, then Settings > Appearance and accessibility, and choose Dark under Theme.

Does Teams dark mode apply to calls and meetings?

Yes. Switching to the Dark theme darkens the entire app, including the meeting and call windows, chat, and channels. If you keep Teams light, the same Appearance settings have an “Always use dark theme for calls and meetings” box, so only your calls go dark.

Can Teams follow my system dark mode automatically?

Yes. On Windows and Mac, choose Follow operating system theme under Theme in Settings > Appearance and accessibility, and Teams switches with your computer. On iPhone and Android you can set it to follow your phone’s system theme.

Make the rest of the web match Teams

Teams is dark in one click — most websites are not. Modern Dark Mode forces a dark theme onto every site in Chrome and Edge, so your whole workday is easy on the eyes.
