Google retired its cached pages in 2024, and the cache: search operator no longer works. Its "About this result" panel now links to the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine for some pages, and Patrick Bushe's Wayback Machine Quick-Access opens the latest archived copy of any page in one click. Archives are for pages that have changed or gone, and publishers often keep paywalled articles out of them.
