Celsius and Fahrenheit differ in both degree size and zero point, so a simple linear factor is not enough. Celsius to Fahrenheit multiplies by nine-fifths and adds 32; the reverse subtracts 32 and multiplies by five-ninths. This page applies the correct direction automatically.

The default 100 degrees Celsius converts to exactly 212 degrees Fahrenheit. In reverse, 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit converts to exactly 37 degrees Celsius. Negative inputs remain valid, including the point where both scales read minus 40.
