Bridge Fahrenheit and absolute temperature

Fahrenheit and Kelvin differ in both interval size and zero point. The conversion first accounts for the Fahrenheit offset and five-ninths scale, then shifts to the Kelvin absolute scale. The reverse performs those operations in the opposite order.

With the default input, 32 degrees Fahrenheit converts to exactly 273.15 kelvins. Reversing direction converts 273.15 kelvins back to exactly 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Six-significant-figure formatting keeps less familiar decimal results readable.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is 32 degrees Fahrenheit in kelvins?

Thirty-two degrees Fahrenheit equals exactly 273.15 kelvins.

Why does this formula need two steps?

Fahrenheit differs from Celsius in degree size and zero point, while Kelvin shares the Celsius interval but uses an absolute zero.

Can Kelvin temperatures be negative?

Negative Kelvin values are not physically meaningful in ordinary thermodynamic temperature, though this converter does not clamp entered numbers.
