Best Chrome Extension To Detect AI Art

AI art detection works in two main ways: reading clues stored in the file, or analyzing the pixels with a trained model. The best setup is usually one of each, plus a way to read Content Credentials. Disclosure: the first is made by Patrick Bushe, who runs this site.

1. AI Image Detector

AI Image Detector reads an image's metadata in your browser and flags AI generator names, Stable Diffusion prompts and settings saved in PNG files, IPTC tags that mark AI content and Content Credentials. It can auto-scan pages and badge likely AI images, and you can right-click any image to check it.

• Strengths: free, fast and private; the standard check doesn't upload images. It's very good at catching Stable Diffusion art shared as original PNG files.
• Limits: art sites and social networks often strip metadata, leaving nothing to read. An optional Deep Scan uses your own SightEngine or Hive key for a visual check.

2. Hive AI Detector

Hive's free extension sends images to its detection models and returns a probability that they're AI-generated, often with a guess at the generator.

• Strengths: works on images with no metadata.
• Limits: scores can be wrong, especially for stylized digital art, heavy edits or compressed images. Images are sent to Hive.

3. Content Authenticity by Adobe

Shows Content Credentials on images as you browse. Useful for art made in Adobe tools or Firefly, and for artists who sign their own work with credentials.

Why art is especially hard

Digital painting tools, filters and AI-assisted features blur the line. A human artist's work can score high on visual detectors, which has led to false accusations in art communities. Ask artists for process evidence, such as sketches, layers or time-lapse recordings, before concluding anything.

Combine the results

Metadata showing AI is strong evidence. A high visual score alone is a reason to look closer, not a verdict.
