Chrome Extension That Actually Makes Dark Mode Look Good

How good a forced dark mode looks depends a lot on the site.

Modern Dark Mode uses a simple, predictable method: it flips the page's colors and rotates the hues back, so white becomes dark charcoal, black text becomes light gray, and colors keep roughly their hue. Photos and videos are flipped back to normal. It doesn't apply a designed color palette, so it looks best on text-heavy sites; for a site you use all day, its own dark theme, if it has one, will usually look better. You can fine-tune the result with the Brightness, Contrast, Sepia / Warmth and Grayscale sliders.
