One extension covers this: Patrick Bushe's Search Cleaner. On google.com search pages it hides the AI Overview by default, and you can switch on "Shopping Carousel", "Discussions & Forums", "People Also Ask" and 20 more sections to hide as well. It works on Google only, not on Bing or DuckDuckGo, and it changes what you see rather than the results themselves.
