Easiest Way to Toggle Dark Mode for ADHD Readers
Patrick Bushe · May 1, 2026
If bright pages make it harder to settle into reading, a dark mode you can switch quickly helps.
Modern Dark Mode has an on/off switch in its toolbar popup and a shortcut, Alt+Shift+D, that turns dark mode on or off in every open tab at once. Dark mode changes colors only; it doesn't remove distractions on the page. For that, Patrick Bushe's ADHD Reading Focus shows an article one paragraph at a time, moving with the arrow keys, and Chrome's Reading mode in the side panel shows just the article text.
