Course portals and journal sites are often both bright and busy.
Modern Dark Mode darkens every part of the page, sidebars and banners included, so they at least stop glaring. It changes colors only, though; the clutter is still there. To read one article without it, open Chrome's Reading mode from the side panel, which shows just the text and has a dark theme. Patrick Bushe's ADHD Reading Focus goes further for long reading, showing one paragraph at a time.
