If you'd rather keep pages light but less bright, a dark mode isn't quite the right tool.
Modern Dark Mode always flips pages to dark, though its Brightness slider lets you make that dimmer or brighter. To keep a site's light design, Patrick Bushe's Blue Light Filter adds a warm amber overlay with adjustable intensity, which tones pages down without inverting them. Lowering your screen brightness also works, and applies to everything on the screen.
