Competitive analysis usually focuses on messaging, pricing, and features. Typography gets overlooked, but it's one of the biggest contributors to how professional and trustworthy a website feels. Two sites with identical content but different typography can create dramatically different impressions.

Font Detector lets you reverse-engineer your competitor's typographic choices in seconds. Visit their homepage and hover over each text element. You'll quickly build a complete picture: heading font, body font, accent font, and the specific weights and sizes used for each.

Look beyond just the font names. Note the size hierarchy — how much larger are their H1s compared to their H2s and body text? What line height do they use for body text? Do they use a different font weight for navigation versus body content? These details create the visual rhythm that makes their site feel cohesive.

Compare across several competitors in your space. If three out of five competitors use the same font family, that font has become a visual convention in your industry. Using it makes your site feel familiar. Choosing something different makes you stand out — which can be good or bad depending on your brand positioning.

Also check what they're not doing. If a competitor uses a trendy display font that's hard to read at small sizes, that's a weakness in their design. If their body text line height is too tight, their long-form content is harder to read than it needs to be. Competitive analysis isn't just about copying what works — it's about spotting weaknesses you can exploit.

Font Detector turns competitive typography analysis from a research project into a five-minute task. Visit, hover, identify, and move on to the next competitor.
