How Google Ranks Reddit and Forum Content in 2026

For many searches, Reddit threads and forum posts now sit near the top of Google. That's a big change from a few years ago, and it came from several decisions on Google's side, as well as from what searchers wanted.

Why forums rank more now

  • People asked for it. Many searchers added "reddit" to their searches to find real opinions instead of thin review sites. Google noticed.
  • Firsthand experience. Since 2022, Google's guidelines have put more weight on experience: content from people who've actually used the product or done the thing.
  • Updates that favored discussions. From 2023, Google said it wanted to show more "hidden gems" and personal perspectives, and added a "Discussions and forums" block to results.
  • The Google-Reddit deal. In February 2024, Google and Reddit announced an agreement giving Google access to Reddit's data, including for AI training.

Reddit's visibility in Google grew sharply over this period, and other forums gained too. Google also added a Forums filter to the row of options under the search box for some searches, which shows only discussion results.

The upside

  • Real experiences and honest complaints, not just marketing.
  • Niche questions that no article covers.
  • Multiple viewpoints in one thread.

The downside

  • Old answers: threads from years ago may describe products or rules that have changed.
  • Unchecked claims: anyone can post, and confident answers can be wrong.
  • Hidden marketing: some posts are written by companies pretending to be users. See Reddit and Quora spam in results.

Using forum results well

  • Check the date of the thread and the top replies.
  • Look for agreement across several replies, not one confident post.
  • Check important advice, such as medical, legal or financial, against official sources.

Seeing fewer forum results

  • Add -site:reddit.com to a search to exclude Reddit.
  • Use site: to search the sources you trust instead.
  • Search Cleaner can hide the Discussions & Forums block and other sections you choose on Google's results pages.

Or the reverse: add site:reddit.com when you want opinions. More tips in Google search operators.

For site owners

You can't outrank Reddit by copying it. Show real experience: original photos, testing, specific details and named authors. That's what Google says it rewards, and what forum threads often lack.
