How to Install Chrome Extensions on Edge Brave and Opera

Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi are built on Chromium, the same engine as Chrome, so most Chrome extensions work in them. Some need one setting changed first.
Microsoft Edge
- Open the Chrome Web Store in Edge and go to the extension's page.
- Edge shows a banner offering to allow extensions from other stores. Click Allow extensions from other stores, then confirm.
- Click Add to Chrome, then Add extension.
Edge also has its own store, Microsoft Edge Add-ons, which lists many of the same extensions.
Brave
Open the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Brave (or Add to Chrome). No extra setting needed. Brave's built-in Shields already block ads and trackers, so you may not need a separate blocker, and running both can break sites.
Opera
- First install Opera's Install Chrome Extensions add-on from the Opera add-ons site.
- Then open the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Opera.
Vivaldi
Open the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome. It works directly.
When an extension may not work
- Chrome-only features: a few extensions rely on Google sign-in, Chrome sync or Chrome-specific features.
- Clashes with built-in tools: Brave's Shields, Opera's ad blocker and VPN, or Edge's tracking prevention can overlap with extensions that do the same job.
- Different settings pages: manage extensions at
edge://extensions,brave://extensionsoropera://extensions. - Updates: extensions from the Chrome Web Store update automatically in these browsers, though sometimes a little later than in Chrome.
Moving your extensions to a new browser
Extensions don't move between browsers on their own. Make a list at chrome://extensions before you switch, install each one again in the new browser, and export settings from any extension that offers it. Sticky notes, saved sessions and other data stored inside an extension usually stay behind in the old browser. See how to back up extension settings.
Not supported
- Firefox uses its own add-on store. Many popular extensions have Firefox versions; see Chrome extension alternatives for Firefox.
- Safari uses Safari extensions from the App Store.
- Phones: Chrome, Edge and Brave on iPhone don't support extensions, and Chrome on Android doesn't either.
Same safety rules
Whatever the browser, check an extension's developer, reviews and permissions before installing. See how to test an extension before trusting it, and for choosing a browser, Chrome vs Brave vs Firefox.
