Zillow vs Redfin vs Realtor: Best Browser Extension Support

None of the big three home search sites makes its own Chrome extension, but third-party extensions can add data and features to them. Before installing anything, it helps to know what each site already does on its own.
What each site already has
- Zillow: the Zestimate, price and tax history, saved searches and alerts. Price per square foot appears on a home's own page, not in search results.
- Redfin: fast listing updates where it acts as a broker, the Redfin Estimate, and the option to sort search results by price per square foot.
- Realtor.com: listings fed from the MLS, with frequent status updates, plus neighborhood and school information.
For how their data compares, see Zillow vs Redfin vs Realtor: which has the best data.
Extensions that add something useful
- Price per square foot on Zillow search results. Zillow Price/SqFt adds it to every listing card on Zillow, so you can compare homes of different sizes without opening each one. It works on Zillow only.
- Notes on homes you're tracking. Sticky Notes Anywhere keeps notes on any listing page, saved in your browser.
- Investor calculators. Several extensions estimate rent, cash flow or cap rate from listing pages. Check where their numbers come from before relying on them. The free cap rate calculator works with your own figures.
Dark mode for Zillow and Redfin
If a home search site has no dark theme of its own, Modern Dark Mode darkens it while keeping listing photos and maps in their real colors. That matters on these sites, where photos are most of the page.
Choosing a safe real estate extension
- Check the permissions. An extension for Zillow should only need access to Zillow, not "all sites".
- Look at reviews and update dates on the Chrome Web Store. An extension that hasn't been updated in years may break when the site changes.
- Be wary of extensions that ask you to sign up or collect your searches. Some exist mainly to gather leads.
- If something stops working, the site has probably changed its layout. Check for an update before reinstalling.
Using them together
Many buyers search on two sites: Zillow for browsing and Redfin or Realtor.com for the freshest status changes, with their agent's MLS alerts on top. Extensions make each site a little better, but none replaces checking the listing details with an agent. See Zillow features on mobile vs desktop.
