Dark Mode for Salesforce That Does Not Break Dashboard Colors

Short answer: yes, Salesforce has a native dark mode now. It arrived as a beta with the Winter '26 release as part of SLDS 2, Salesforce's updated Lightning design system, starting with Starter orgs and rolling out to more editions, including Sales and Service Cloud, over later releases. An admin turns it on for the org, then each user picks light, dark, or system.

For admins: turn on dark mode

  1. Make sure your org uses an SLDS 2 theme. Dark mode depends on it.
  2. In Setup, open Themes and Branding.
  3. Create a new SLDS 2 theme or edit an existing one, enable the dark mode setting, then save and activate the theme.

Availability depends on your edition and release, so check your org's release notes and Salesforce's dark mode documentation if you don't see the option.

Test before rolling it out

  • Custom Lightning components with hard-coded colors may not adapt. Components built on SLDS 2 styling hooks switch automatically.
  • Managed packages and third-party apps may lag behind.
  • Dashboards and reports: check that chart colors still mean what they should and that legends match.
  • Open a few of your most-used record pages and apps in dark mode before switching everyone over.

For users: pick your color mode

Once your admin has turned it on, open your profile menu, go to the display or appearance setting, and choose Light, Dark, or System to follow your computer's theme. Refresh if the change doesn't apply straight away.

If your org doesn't have it yet

A browser extension is the fallback. How it darkens the page matters:

  • Full-page inversion flips every color, including charts and brand colors, which makes dashboards hard to read.
  • Filter-based dark mode that leaves images alone keeps pictures and many chart elements closer to their real colors.

With Modern Dark Mode or any extension with per-site controls, set Salesforce up on its own: lower the intensity if charts look washed out, and exclude the site on days you live in dashboards. Once native dark mode reaches your org, switch the extension off for Salesforce to avoid double-darkening.

Keep dashboards readable either way

  • Check a dashboard where you know which color means good and bad, and confirm it still reads correctly.
  • Switch to light mode before presenting numbers, so everyone sees the same colors.
  • If glare is the real problem, a warm tint from Blue Light Filter helps without changing what colors mean.

Frequently asked questions

Does Salesforce have a dark mode?

Yes, as a beta through SLDS 2 since Winter '26, rolling out by edition. Your admin enables it; then you choose it in your personal settings.

Why don't I see a dark mode option in Salesforce?

Your org may not be on SLDS 2 yet, the feature may not have reached your edition, or your admin hasn't enabled it in Themes and Branding.
