A mid-century real estate website, seen through a wall of glass

A brokerage site for mid-century homes, with filters, a payment calculator and a home value estimate.

Clerestory is a made-up brand. I designed and built it to show what a real estate site can look like; the people, prices, results and reviews on it are samples.

The brief

Clerestory is a made-up two-agent brokerage that only sells mid-century houses, from Silver Lake to Palm Springs.

Buyers of these houses care about the architect, the original details and the neighborhood as much as the price. Sellers want an agent who knows what makes their house worth more.

The idea

The mid-century house

Photos are seen through a wall of glass: thin white mullions that appear on hover and open on the hero. The butterfly roof is the logo and the hero’s top edge, breeze-block screens fill the bands, and each listing has a small front door in its own Palm Springs color that swings open on hover. White, charcoal and pool aqua; Josefin Sans light with Hanken Grotesk.

Design decisions

Read the house

A short glossary with line drawings explains the six features buyers look for, and listings tag them, so the site talks the way these buyers talk.

Filters buyers actually use

Homes filter by area, bedrooms and price, sold homes are one tap away, and a clear empty state helps when nothing matches.

A seller’s number, not just a form

The selling page gives a sample value range from the neighborhood and size, then asks for details to get a real number.

What’s built

  • Home search with filters and a helpful empty state
  • Listing pages with a photo gallery and a monthly payment calculator
  • Tour requests in person or by video
  • Neighborhood guides for Los Angeles and Palm Springs
  • Home value estimate by neighborhood and size
  • Recently sold homes and agent profiles

Pages to try

Everything works in the browser. Forms and checkout don’t send anything.
