A family medicine clinic website, drawn like hospital wayfinding lines

A family clinic site where every kind of care has its own colored line, and booking takes under a minute.

Kinfield Family Medicine is a made-up brand. I designed and built it to show what a medical clinic site can look like; the people, prices, results and reviews on it are samples.

The brief

Kinfield is a made-up family medicine clinic in Eagle Rock with eight clinicians and five kinds of care: primary care, same-day visits, kids, women’s health, and labs and shots.

Patients come to a clinic site to do one thing: book, check that they’re covered, or see who’s taking new patients. Many are reading on a phone while they feel unwell.

The idea

Hospital wayfinding

Hospitals guide people with colored lines on the floor. Here each kind of care has its own line: blue for primary care, red for same-day, yellow for kids, purple for women’s health, green for labs. The lines run through the whole site, from a legend in the hero to a route down each care page, stations for each step of a first visit, and a map where the lines meet.

Design decisions

Easy to read for everyone

Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface made for low-vision readers, at an 18px base size on white and cool grey.

Booking comes first

A slot picker on the home page (kind of care, day, time) hands the pick straight to the booking page, which is four short steps.

Prices before the visit

Insurance and sample self-pay prices are on the home page and the new-patient page, not behind a phone call.

What’s built

  • Four-step booking: what you need, a time, about you, check and confirm
  • Slot picker on the home page with times from a sample schedule
  • A page for each kind of care: what’s treated, how the visit goes, what it costs, who you’ll see
  • Clinician directory that shows who’s taking new patients
  • New-patient route in five stops, with what to bring
  • Patient portal preview, hours, location and questions
