The brief

Lowtide Counseling is a made-up practice in Long Beach with three clinicians who see adults and couples in person and by video anywhere in California.

Most people put off therapy because the first step is a mystery: who to see, what it costs, and what actually happens in the room. A practice site can answer all three before anyone has to pick up the phone.

The idea

The tide chart

When the water goes out, you can see what’s in the pools. The site draws slow tide curves: the first session is charted across its 50 minutes, the sliding scale is a tide gauge that fills to your fee, and the topic cards end on a waterline. Sea blue and an evening-sky rose on cool white; Outfit with Mulish.

Design decisions

Take the mystery out of the first session

A tide chart walks the 50 minutes: settle in, what brings you, what you want different, decide together. Knowing the plan makes it easier to book.

Match people to a clinician

Five questions (what brings you, who’s coming, where, when, how you’ll pay) point to the clinician who fits, with sample openings and the fee. Clinicians are described by license and focus, with no names or faces.

Say the price

The sliding scale runs $60 to $180 on the honor system, shown as a gauge with the full table beside it. Superbills and the Good Faith Estimate are explained in plain words.

Crisis help on every page

The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is in the menu and the footer on every page, and beside the fit matcher and the consult form, which says it isn’t watched around the clock.
