Social media managers live in the browser: several accounts per platform, constant posting, research and reporting. A few extensions and Chrome features take a lot of friction out of the day.

Scheduling and sharing

  • Buffer and Hootsuite both have extensions that let you share the page you're on, or an image, straight into your posting queue.
  • Most scheduling platforms also have web apps that cover posting to all major networks.

Writing and length limits

  • A grammar checker such as Grammarly catches typos before they go out to thousands of people.
  • Know the limits: posts on X are 280 characters on a free account, LinkedIn posts allow 3,000 characters, and Instagram captions 2,200.
  • Word Counter counts the words and characters in any text you select on a page, handy when drafting in a document or a tool without a counter.
  • Use your system's emoji picker instead of an emoji extension: Win + . on Windows, Ctrl + Cmd + Space on Mac.

Managing several accounts

The biggest time saver is often Chrome itself. Create a separate Chrome profile for each client or brand, each staying signed in to its own social accounts, with its own extensions and bookmarks. No more logging in and out. See how to use Chrome profiles.

Research and inspiration

  • The Meta Ad Library and TikTok Creative Center show competitors' ads and trending content, free.
  • Color Palette Extractor pulls a brand's colors from its website, and Font Detector identifies its fonts, both useful for on-brand graphics.
  • A screenshot tool with annotation helps when sending feedback or saving examples.

Staying focused while working in feeds

Working inside social feeds all day makes it easy to scroll instead of work. Extensions such as News Feed Eradicator hide feeds on sites like Facebook, X and LinkedIn while keeping posting, messages and notifications. A site blocker with a schedule can keep personal browsing to breaks. See extensions for reducing screen time.

Keep the accounts safe

  • Use a password manager and two-step verification on every account. Social accounts are frequent targets.
  • Be careful with extensions that ask to read all sites: they can see everything in every account you manage. Install only what you need.
  • Remove extensions when a project ends, and review access for team tools regularly.
