Etsy changes its search regularly, and doesn't announce every change. What it has said consistently is what search looks at. Sellers who get those basics right are least affected when details change.

The current limits

• Titles: up to 140 characters. Etsy's guidance favors short, clear titles over keyword lists.
• Tags: 13 per listing, each up to 20 characters.
• Attributes: color, material, occasion and similar details chosen from Etsy's lists.

What Etsy search looks at

• Relevance: how well your title, tags, attributes and category match what the shopper typed.
• Listing quality: how often shoppers click, favorite and buy your listing when they see it.
• Shop experience: reviews, complete shop policies and a record of resolving problems.
• Recency: new and renewed listings may get a short boost while Etsy learns how they perform.
• Shipping: Etsy has given US listings with free shipping, or shops that offer it on orders over a set amount, priority in US search.
• Personalization: results also depend on each shopper's own browsing and buying.

What this means for listings

3. Fill in every attribute that applies; they act like extra tags.
4. Make the first photo clear and appealing, because it drives clicks.
5. Price shipping competitively, or build it into the price.

Don't chase rumors
