Etsy doesn't publish a best-seller list, but it shows plenty of signals. Read them together and you can tell which products sell well in a niche, and why.

Signals on the search results

  • "Bestseller" badges mark listings that have sold especially well recently.
  • "Popular now" and similar labels show items with rising interest.
  • Cart counts such as "in 20+ carts" show current demand.
  • Star ratings and review counts on each listing. More reviews usually means more sales over time.

Search your niche with a few different phrases, and note the listings that show up again and again.

Signals on shops

  • Shop pages show the number of sales and when the shop opened, so you can estimate how fast it sells.
  • Reviews show what people bought, often with photos. Sort by most recent to see what's selling now.
  • A shop's top-selling items often appear first in its listings.

Learn why they sell

  • Keywords: Etsy Keyword Extractor shows the tags on a listing, so you can see the phrases best sellers target and the gaps they leave.
  • Photos: look at the first photo, which does most of the work in search results.
  • Price and shipping: note the price range and whether shipping is free.
  • Personalization and options: many best sellers offer custom names, sizes or colors.
  • Reviews: read the complaints too. They tell you what to do better.

Check demand beyond Etsy

  • Etsy's search suggestions show what people type as you type a phrase.
  • Google Trends shows whether interest in a product type is growing, steady or seasonal.
  • Research tools such as eRank estimate searches and sales. Treat their numbers as rough estimates, not facts.

Don't copy

Use best sellers to understand demand, not to copy designs. Copying another seller's work can get your listings removed and break copyright or trademark law. Look for an angle they miss: a different style, material, size, or buyer.

Turn research into listings

Once you know the phrases buyers use, write your title and tags around them. The free Etsy tags tool turns a list of ideas into 13 tags within the 20-character limit. For the full process, see Etsy keyword research for beginners and extensions for Etsy sellers.
