Most of running a Shopify store happens in the admin, but a lot of the research and checking happens in Chrome: looking at competitors, testing tracking, checking speed and reviewing your own pages. These extensions help.
Competitor research
- Shopify Theme Detector shows which theme and apps any Shopify store is running. Useful when you see a feature you want, such as a size chart, a bundle offer or a reviews layout, and want to know which app provides it.
- Wayback Quick Access opens older versions of a competitor's pages, so you can see how their pricing, offers and homepage have changed over time.
More in how to research ecommerce competitors with extensions.
Design and branding
- Color Palette Extractor pulls the main colors from any page, ranked by how often they're used, with HEX and RGB codes.
- Font Detector shows the font, size and weight of any text you click, so you can match a look or check your own theme's settings.
Tracking and ads
- Meta Pixel Helper, Meta's official extension, shows whether your Meta Pixel fires and which events it sends.
- Tag Assistant, from Google, checks your Google Analytics and Google Ads tags.
Check these after installing a new theme or tracking app. Broken tracking is a common reason ads suddenly seem to stop working.
Speed and SEO
- Lighthouse, built into Chrome's DevTools (press
F12, then the Lighthouse tab), scores a page's speed, accessibility and basic SEO. Test your product and collection pages, not just the homepage. - Uninstalled apps sometimes leave code behind in your theme. If a page is slow, look for scripts from apps you no longer use.
Writing product pages
- A grammar checker catches mistakes in product descriptions.
- Word Counter counts the words and characters in any text you select, useful for keeping SEO titles and meta descriptions within the length search results show.
Keep it lean
Use a separate Chrome profile for the store, with only the extensions you need. Your Shopify admin holds customer and order data, so every extension that can read all sites can read that too. See what extension permissions mean.
